A Gentleman’s Cave
The client, a man who works from home, required a stylish and multifunctional space that would serve as an impressive backdrop for his numerous video calls and provide a serene retreat for his hobbies of drawing and building electronics. Central to the design were his items of decorative memorabilia from his time in the army and a striking, autumnal photographic print of the Isle of Skye, both of which became focal points for the room's aesthetic.
Given the room's size, we opted for built-in furniture to maximize both desk and storage space efficiently. This approach not only optimizes the room's functionality but also ensures a clean, streamlined look that complements the client's professional needs. The colour scheme was directly inspired by the client's memorabilia, featuring a rich forest green as the primary hue, accented with touches of burgundy and flashes of gold to create a sophisticated and cohesive design.
To enhance the room's ambiance, we incorporated subtle textures and patterns. A deep forest green feature wall provides a striking backdrop for video calls, while burgundy accents in the form of the office chair and some of the framed artwork add warmth and depth. Gold elements, such as desk accessories and light fixtures, introduce a touch of elegance and refinement.
The built-in desk, crafted from oak, is designed to offer ample workspace and includes drawers and shelves for organized storage of electronics and art supplies. A comfortable ergonomic chair ensures long hours of productivity without compromising on comfort.
The client desired a sumptuous, Victorian-inspired atmosphere for the room, so we incorporated a William Morris print for the blinds and panels of textured wallpaper. These elements bring the vintage charm without overpowering the small space, creating an elegant and balanced design.
Incorporating the client's personal artifacts and a well-thought-out colour scheme, this room seamlessly blends functionality with a personalized, stylish aesthetic, providing an ideal environment for both work and relaxation.
